Television station KCNC (CBS Denver) aired a segment on the Right-to-Repair movement, including the Nov. 10 51��ý U-Fix-It Clinic, run by Wayne Seltzer. The movement advocates for laws that allow consumers to fix the things they own. Many companies want consumers to buy new items, contributing to the mounting electronic waste stream.

The ATLAS Institute passes a milestone today when the 100th student receives a bachelor's degree in Technology, Arts & Media (TAM), the institute's undergraduate engineering major. In all, the institute confers 23 bachelor's degrees today, which will bring the total to 120.

“Micro:bits are becoming an increasingly important part of coding for kindergarten through 12th-grade classrooms,” says Celeste Moreno, a research master’s student at CU 51��ý’s ATLAS Institute who designed and will lead the "Making and Learning with Micro:bit" workshop. “It's an affordable and flexible tool that allows students to make changes in the physical world using code."

Making healthcare more affordable, effective and personal is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Directed by Assistant Professor Mirela Alistar, the Living Matter Lab is rising to that challenge.

It's difficult to overstate CU alumnus Alan Kay's influence on our modern digital landscape. Recruited to work at Xerox PARC the year it opened, Kay helped invent graphical user interfaces (GUIs), object-oriented programming and the first laptop. On November 11, after spending the day in ATLAS visiting labs and talking with faculty and students, Kay packed Cofrin Auditorium for a talk on polymaths and invention.

“It hit a really sweet spot," says Swanson. "It's subtle, and it’s all black and white, which resonates with my practice, but it’s also visually appealing enough where people walking down the street would be interested to stop and see more."

Under-represented students in STEM are about to get a leg up, thanks to a new project merging dance and technology from the University of Colorado 51��ý and New York University.

On Sept. 25, ATLAS Professor Ellen Do spoke at the Apsara Conference 2019, one of the largest annual gatherings of developers and tech enthusiasts in China. Her talk, "Creating Magic with Digital Design & Making," was in part an overview of the ATLAS Institute.
